Gardener's Choice was the first of two books written by James Hitchmough when he taught at the Victorian college of Agriculture & Horticulture in Melbourne during the 1980s. The aim was to inspire gardeners in south-eastern Australia to grow beautiful & interesting plants, not just the same old, same old which you see in every second front yard.

Over 400 native & introduced plants, bulbs, perennials, climbers, shrubs & trees, are covered & described in a lively & informative manner. There are suggestions for each season, different planting situations & plant combinations. Some of the plants described have become more readily available since the book was written. Others, sadly, are still difficult to source.
