Beth Chatto (1923–2018) was the pioneering plantswoman and author who designed and created The Beth Chatto Gardens in Elmstead Market, Essex, England. Working alongside her husband, botanist Andrew Chatto, she transformed a disused fruit farm with challenging gravel and boggy soils into a world-renowned collection of ecological gardens starting in 1960.
